Gluten Free Peanut Butter Bon Bons are bite sized peanut butter and chocolate treat, no matter what your age!
Did you have a wonderful grandmother or auntie that knew how to make bon bons when you were growing up?
No? Me either!!
But they sure did load up on those chocolate bon bons at the grocery store and of course, me being a typical sweet loving kid, ate my fair share and then some (they didn’t call me chipmunk cheeks for nothin’!)
I mean these things were fantastic: chocolate, peanut butter and slightly bigger than bite size!!
I LOVED chocolate bon bons and always went on the pantry search for those special treats.
Time has a way of changing things!
Gluten free became the norm of my dietary existence.
However, every once in a while that sweet (and I do mean SWEET) memory comes bubbling up in my brain.
I NEED some peanut butter and chocolate from the days of my wonderful childhood.
I have a friend who makes bon bons every Christmas and tried (unsuccessfully at that time) to convince me they were not difficult to make.
Enter one day last week of me having a serious craving to return to my childhood when life was so much less hectic, easier and there were BON BONS!!
I contacted my friend, got the recipe and set about to prepare a Gluten Free Peanut Butter Bon Bon. I thought I could indulge my tastebud memory without any serious ramifications to my health, well, except for the calories of course.
I’m pretty sure calories did not exist during my early childhood; it was just that whole adolescent growth spurt that did me in!
I gathered the gluten free graham cracker crumbs, my favorite peanut butter, chocolate and, wonder of wonders, sweet vanilla icing. This surely sounds like sugar overload but sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do and then suffer the consequences!!
Hey, she was right!!
This recipe isn’t that difficult!
Gluten Free Peanut Butter Bon Bons I hear you calling my name.
BE STILL MY HEART these Gluten Free Peanut Butter Bon Bons are the answer to any adult’s dreams of returning to childhood!!
They were sweet, they were peanut butter wrapped in delicious chocolate that actually did melt in my mouth.
Just one problem: with this adult consuming a beloved childhood treat I so fondly remembered (and drooled over)…..
These Gluten Free Peanut Butter Bon Bons were WAY sweeter than the bon bons of my carefree days!
Would you believe I could only eat one? Followed by a large glass of water and about an hour before I indulged in another one!!!
Yeah, they were THAT sweet, but OH SO GOOD!
Moral of the story: my taste perception has changed with age, but my memories are precious because they remind me of the most carefree time of my life!
But hey, now I have the opportunity of making some sweet (pun intended) memories with the little ones in my life!!
Enjoy!
