My mom is one of six children, so when her family gets together for a meal, everyone brings a dish or two or three.
I need to have something I can eat (gluten free, cow’s milk free) that is filling and easy to prepare.
This is a dish I like because it is a good get-with-the-family-for-a-meal or a main course I can serve at home with rice and a salad.
This is also a great appetizer dish that could be made and then kept warm and served from the crockpot for the family gathering.
Again, the longer the flavors blend, the better the taste of these meatballs.
BBQ Meatballs Gluten Free
Author: lets be yummy
Ingredients
- Meatballs
- 1 pound meat, I use dark ground turkey
- 2 eggs
- ⅓ cup gluten free dry bread crumbs
- ⅓ cup grated Pamesan cheese (I use goat cheese)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp oregano
- ¼ tsp pepper
- Barbecue Sauce
- 1¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp GF Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- ¾ cup finely chopped onion
- ½ cup finely chopped bell pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Meatballs
- Mix all ingredients by hand or in mixer with flat blade until well combined.
- Shape into 1 inch balls, I used a melon ball scooper, and place in heated, simmering barbecue sauce. Coat in sauce by turning frequently, cook about 20 minutes or until done.
- Sauce
- Cook onions and peppers until tender in 1 Tbsp oil in a heavy saucepan. Add remaining ingredients, mix well and cook over a medium heat for 10 minutes and then reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. *** This can be made ahead so if not using now, cool mixture to room temperature and then store in a covered container in refrigerator until needed. Yields 2 cups.***
Thanks for this recipe; it was exactly what I was looking fo.
