Gluten Free Peruvian Steak Saute

Gluten Free Peruvian Steak Saute is a fantastic made from scratch marinade that elevates steak to a whole new flavor realm!

Confession: I have never been privileged to eat Peruvian steak in a restaurant, but it is a recipe that has always stimulated my taste buds and imagination.

When I was a child, my dad went on a mission trip to South America and came back raving about the fantastic steak dishes they served there.
I guess that memory just stuck and wa-la all these years later, I am researching, looking at different meal ideas and Peruvian steak enters my field of vision.

While I do a lot of dessert recipes for this blog, a person cannot live by dessert alone, although a few have been known to try!
So, being gluten free, I am always on the lookout for an easy, healthy entree that I can tweak in to being gluten free.

When I researched Peruvian Steak, I learned it is called Lomo Saltado and is made with french fries and tomatoes.

While I like tomatoes and french fries as well as the next person, I do not want them cooked with my steak.  Just call me weird.

I was wanting an entree that was simple but very flavorful (translation: a little to a lot on the spicy side)!

Gluten Free Peruvian Steak Saute delivers!
This wonderful steak dish is full of juicy, spicy deliciousness that is so quick and easy to prepare.

The marinade is very easy and very potent!
You definitely do NOT want to marinate the meat more than 20 minutes!
I put the meat in the marinade, chop my onions and garlic and began sautéing them while the meat is resting and absorbing those luscious flavors!

Let me warn you, when you add the beef to the onions, garlic and then throw in the jalapeños and cilantro, be prepared for the most heavenly smell in your kitchen.

  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 medium red onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp pickled jalapeno peppers
  • 2 Tbsp fresh cilantro
Instructions
  1. Mix vinegar, soy sauce and cumin together.
  2. Place mixture and meat in a ziploc bag or tupperware container.
  3. Marinate in refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.*
  4. Preheat large saute pan on medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Place oil in pan.
  6. Add the onions and garlic.
  7. Cook 4-5 minutes or until onions begin to soften.
  8. Add beef (discarding marinade), jalapenos and cilantro.
  9. Cook and stir until steak is no longer pink; about 4-5 minutes.
Notes
The marinade is naturally acidic. Marinating much longer than 20 minutes may begin to cook the beef.
